MS UniversityWhile the M S University (MSU) administration may have considered it appropriate to give an opportunity of candidates for a debate on major issues and their agendas, the students seemingly are uninterested. With only a handful of students registering for the debate, it has been cancelled.

The open debate was scheduled on Friday at the C C Mehta Auditorium. In an attempt to avoid chaos, the university had asked students wishing to attend it to get themselves registered. However, only around a hundred students did so.

A MSU official said that it could be expected that the turnout would be even lower than 100. The situation is much against what was being apprehended by a section of senate members. They had objected to the event being held at the auditorium stated that if students came in large numbers it could create chaos. The alternative of having faculty-wise debates or selecting the union pavilion ground as a venue was also suggested.

Sources said that the student leaders themselves were not keen on the debate. They did not encourage students to come for the event and did not make any preparations themselves too.
