Acting Vice Chancellor (VC) of Gujarat University, Mukul Shah finally declared the date for the syndicate election of the University. The elections will be conducted on September 20.  There was virtually no room left to delay the electionsas the Gujarat HC had directed that the election be conducted by September 30.With this, came to an end the longstanding dispute between the NSUI, ABVP and the acting Vice Chancellor. NSUI had been demanding that the date of the syndicate elections be declared. The NSUI had alleged that the acting VC was not announcing the date under the pressure of the BJP Government which feared that they might lose the elections. There had been various protests and demonstrations by the NSUI in this regard, some of them in the VC’s chamber.

With the HC’s directive leaving no room for any further delays, Shah, finally declared the dates for Syndicate election to be held on September 20. There was high drama at the VC’s chamber with various stakeholders in the elections — the senate members belonging to Gujarat University Principals Association, Non-Teaching Staff Association, Teachers Association and Management Association putting pressure on him to declare the date.
