• GIA asked to start diamond manufacturing courses in Surat

    Aiming to get a greater number of skilled workers in the diamond industry,Indian Diamond Institute (IDI) has called upon the Gemological Institute of America(GIA) to start diamond manufacturing courses in the country. Vice-president (education) Ben Hori and director of course development at GIA, Duncan Pay was in the diamond city on Tuesday where they visited IDI and its state-of-the-art ‘city centre’ facility at Vesu.Official sources said that GIA has a huge set up in Mumbai for diamond grading and certification. It is a world leader in diamond certification.

    “We have advised the GIA officials to focus in the area of designing diamond manufacturing courses for the young generation in the country. This would definitely help the industry in increasing its workers strength in the long run,” said Sameer Joshi, executive director at IDI.

    IDI chairman Aagam Sanghavi said, “The GIA officials were impressed with the kind of infrastructure facilities set up by us at Katargam and Vesu. We have suggested GIA to start short term courses in diamond grading.”
