• Donor seat election at VNSGU a fight between powerful trio in Surat

    Three candidates in donor constituency started preparation for the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) senate election scheduled on Sunday. After the Gujarat High Court order three candidates Dinakar Naik, Naishadh Desai and Mahendra Chauhan are in fray. 
    All three candidates are considered senior most in their respective fields. Dinakar Naik, is member of governing body of Sarvajanik Education Society (SES), senate member in Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) and secretary in Surat District Cricket Association. He is backed by a senior BJP leader in south Gujarat and has support of largest education trust of the city.

    Naishadh Desai, is a senior Congress leader and contested assembly election on party’s mandate in past. He is being considered as a Congress candidate in coming assembly election. The city Congress office operates from Desai’s residence. Desai is also a senior leader of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC). Sources within the varsity circles inform that Desai received support from the group in power at VNSGU.

    In medical filed Mahendra Chuahan is a known name in the city. He has been a representative in Medical Council of India (MCI) from VNSGU for a long period. He is a senior senate member of VNSGU and entered senate on donor seat in past. Chauhan now a teacher in medical faculty discontinued his private practice as eye surgeon to become a teacher in medical college.

    In donor constituency of VNSGU senate total 67 voters are registered. VNSGU started sending ballot papers to the voters on Thursday which are supposed to reach the voters on Saturday. The voters will vote using the ballot papers on Sunday.
