A 16-year-old boy, who was on his way to buy snacks in Gotri area, was kidnapped by four persons on Wednesday evening.

The police tracked down the boy identified as Arpan Pandya on Thursday evening. He was taken to the forests in Pavi Jetpur by the accused. One person has been arrested while three others are yet to be traced.

City police commissioner Satish Sharma said that he was kidnapped for ransom. The cops had got some tip-offs in the case on the basis of which they traced the boy.

Pandya, a class X student of Gayatri Vidhyalaya stays in Krishna Sarvodaya society in Gotri. When Arpan didn’t return home till night, his parents panicked and approached the police.

A missing persons report was registered immediately and the cops launched search for the boy. By Thursday afternoon, the missing persons report was changed to kidnapping after the family received a ransom call. “The boy was kidnapped by some people and we are trying to track down the accused. We have got some information, but nobody has been arrested yet,” said city police commissioner Satish Sharma.

During the search, the cops found Arpan’s bicycle from GERI compound in Gotri. However, the police don’t know the location from where he was kidnapped.

The boy’s father Paresh suspects that his son may have been kidnapped by some people who were upset with his land deal that was done some days ago. Paresh performs religious rituals and marriages for a living. He had a huge land in Ankodia village. Sources said that Paresh had sold off his land for about Rs three crore to some people some days ago.

However, some locals were not happy with his deal and disputes had surfaced among them and Paresh. “Paresh had got a ransom call on Thursday afternoon. The kidnapper demanded Rs one crore from him,” said the police.
