TV channel and two online trading companies to recruit BA, BCom and BSc students of GU colleges
Around 450 BA, BCom and BSc students of Gujarat University colleges will be vying for 175 jobs that will be on offer from three companies: an online share trading firm, a television channel and an online equity trading company on Tuesday.
Angel Broking, TV9 and HDFC Securities will be offering placements to the final year students and graduates from among the three disciplines who have been shortlisted to appear for an exam and subsequent interview at B M Institute of Mental Health on Ashram Road.
The placements are part of the state government’s new project UDISHA, for Universal Development of Integrated Employability Skills Through Higher Education Agencies, whereby each college will set up an eight-member placement cell comprising principal, a lecturer and two students each from FY, SY and TY, which will interact with fellow students and list the observations.
At the end of the third year, each passout will be asked to indicate if he/she would like to continue with study, go in for self-employment or like help of the placement cell. Those opting for placement will be put through an aptitude test conducted by B M Institute, which will assess their skills, liking and potential to suggest disciplines in which they could try for jobs.
Placements for 20 students
Meanwhile, 20 BSc students of M G Science Institute were shortlisted by Azure, a business process outsourcing company, after their placement interviews on Saturday. Their packages range from Rs 8,000 for part-time and Rs 12,000 for full-time employees. Around 100 students had participated in the placement process. Dr Ayesha Rafique, placement officer at the institute, said, “We are trying to get more companies to come in for placements. This move will help fresh B Sc graduates to get jobs.”
