9 institutions apply for university status from Gujarat
CAPEX plans – Siemens plans INR 1200 investment in Gujarat
Having inaugurated the second phase of its steam turbine and compressor manufacturing facility at Vadodara, Siemens Ltd has chalked out INR 1,200 crore CAPEX plan for the next two years in the state of Gujarat.
While the company has already invested INR 275 crore of the amount for the second phase of turbine and compressor plant, the company has also planned to expand the existing unit, apart from setting up transformers and wind turbine manufacturing units in the region. More »
One more IT SEZ withdrawn from Gujarat Vadodara
Citing environmental hazards, Strength Real Estate Private Limited, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) floated by Mumbai-based K Raheja Corp, has withdrawn the formal approval granted for an IT/ITeS special economic zone (SEZ) at Vemali near Vadodara in Gujarat.
Spread across an area of 13.74 hectares, the IT SEZ was supposed to come up on the banks of the river Vishwamitri. However, environmental hazards prevented the SPV from moving further. “Any construction work on that site would have deteriorated the situation,” said a source close to the development. More »
GESIA set to expand operations in Gujarat
Having already attracted over 250 IT companies from Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, the Gujarat Electronics & Software Industries Association (GESIA) now intends to expand its operations in the state.
According to Jaimin Shah, the newly elected president of GESIA and founder director, Dev Information Technology Pvt. Ltd., the association intends to begin operations in other cities like Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot. More »
BSNL launches 3G services in Vadodara
After launching 3G services in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) launched the 3G GSM mobile services in the city on Wednesday.

Vadodara to have one more Kendriya Vidyalaya
With the central government sanctioning 71 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) to be set up in the country, one of them will be coming up in the city taking the total number of KVs in the city to six. This sixth KV will be at air force station in Darjipura and will be the only one in Gujarat among the new sanctioned lot.

In Karjan, students already work on Linux System
Gujarat government is gearing up to use Linux operating system in schools in the state, but a city-based foundation has been teaching use of this system to students in Karjan for the last one year now. Schools in this block of Vadodara district were given computers with Linux by the state government, but they did not have teachers acquainted with it. More »
GCET exam centres on first come first served basis
Centres for the Gujarat Common Entrance Test will be allotted on first come first served basis to whoever has applied for it. Around 23,000 students had registered for the test by Monday to join the MBA or MCA courses.

Placement at MSU’s science faculty goes hi-tech!
VADODARA: Campus placement at MS University (MSU) went high tech with science faculty arranging a video conference facility at its placement cell. It will also be the first faculty in the varsity to offer such facility to boost the placement process as well aims to provide gateways to interact with faculty members from foreign universities. MSU online: All faculty accounts to be centralised, computerised
MSU vice-chancellor Ramesh Goyal, during a deans’ meeting on Wednesday, informed that accounts of all faculties will be linked with university accounts. A seven-member team has been constituted to train the staff to operate software, backed by the expert guidance of a chartered accountant.
The faculties will submit their accounts online. These will automatically get transferred to university accounts. Accounts personnel of each department will be trained to operate the software. Every faculty has been surveyed to ascertain requirement of manpower and machines, as well as internet connectivity. Faculties will be provided the required internet connectivity and computer terminals to facilitate this system. More »
British Council to organise UK education fair in Baroda
Students aspiring to pursue higher education in UK will get a chance to meet representatives from nearly 25 UK-based universities in the city on November 24.

167 students from Gujarat make it to IIT-GEE!
Till a few years ago, making it to IIT was a distant dream for students from Gujarat. However, this has changed, increasing awareness of competitive exams have enabled many students to crack IIT-JEE.
This year a record number of 167 students made it to the merit list of IIT-JEE, while another 175 students are in the extended merit list. Of the 7,268 students who appeared for the examination over 4 per cent have made it to the merit list as well as the extended merit list. This figure was better than past performances. Last year about 100 students cleared their examination.

Vadodara to become country’s largest engg hub: L&T

Vadodara: Larsen & Toubro (L&T), which is setting up Knowledge City, wants to develop Vadodara as country’s largest engineering hub. While inaugurating an engineering campus at Waghodia on the outskirts of the city on Friday, L&T’s chairman and managing director AM Naik said that Vadodara will act as headquarters of three out of 18 operating companies of the group, including L&T Power, L&T Hydrocarbon and E-engineering.

Rahejas IT SEZ in Vadodara!
The Centre has given formal approval to four new special economic zones (SEZs) for Gujarat, taking the total SEZs for the state to 55.
The SEZs that received nod at the Board of Approvers’ meet in Delhi on Friday included a textile SEZ by Pradeep Overseas Ltd on 109 hectares (ha) near Ahmedabad, a solar equipment SEZ by Euro Multivision Ltd on 11 ha near Bhachau, and two IT SEZs – by Gauri Shankar Property on 16 ha near Ahmedabad and by Raheja group on 14 ha near Vadodara.
