BBA, BCA admissions enter final phase in Gujarat!

The final phase of admission process for BBA and BCA courses will begin this week. The Gujarat University (GU) will start the ‘counselling’ procedure, wherein students will be asked to decide which college they want to join, on Friday.

According to GU officials, 5,232 class XII pass-outs have applied for admission to BBA, while 5,184 want to study BCA. There are 1,200 seats in BBA colleges and 1,500 in BCA. This year, NRI and management quotas have been scrapped.

The counselling exercise, which will take place at GU’s IAS Centre, will be wrapped up in eight days.

This year, the university has implemented a centralised admission system.

The distribution of forms among students who have secured at least 45 per cent of marks in class XII began at 10 centres on June 2.

GU to invite applications for new colleges Nine BBA and 16 BCA colleges are affiliated to the varsity. There is a need for more colleges, and a GU committee on Tuesday decided to invite applications for new colleges.

Ahmedabad University collaborates with UK b-school

The recently-instituted Ahmedabad University has entered into collaboration with Judge Business School, Cambridge University (UK) to develop an in-house executive MBA program targeted at owner-managed industries.

Cambridge University is ranked the second-best university in the world. The programme, to be jointly designed by faculty of both universities, will also feature a short stint for students at Cambridge, with some faculty of the Ahmedabad University also slated to be trained there. The agreement will facilitate long-term access to course material and faculty training.

Petro university inks deal with US institute

A centre for excellence in energy will be set up by Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University(PDPU) in association with Georgia Institute of Technology (Gatech), Atlanta from the US.

On Saturday, PDPU, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) signed an MoU with Gatech for establishing the centre on the campus and carrying out faculty and student exchange programmes with the university.

Gatech is a technical university and has done research work in the areas of solar, nuclear, electricals and transportation.

PDPU is supported by GSPC to promote research with special focus on the oil and gas, solar and nuclear energy. Officials from Gatech visited the university and also met Chief Minister Narendra Modi to discuss their interest in research in oil and gas, solar, nuclear and wind power.

IIM-A to tie up with 3 top Univarsities!

Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad is all set to add another feather in its cap. The premier B-school will enter into tie-ups

with three top international schools — University of Virginia, Ohio State University and Duke University.

The tie-ups are being planned in three separate spheres — student exchange programme, faculty exchange programme and joint programme in research and training. “This is in addition to nearly 75 tie-ups that the IIM-A already has with different renowned business schools,” said IIM-A director Samir Barua.

Interestingly, various alumni associations are driving the latest spurt of tie-ups. The Darden India Alumni Chapter in Delhi has taken special interest in fixing the tie-up of Darden School of Business, University of Virginia, with IIM-A. “It is a unique thing that alumni association of a foreign university has been involved,” said Barua.
Faculty from each of the three business schools are expected to be in Ahmedabad to hold talks with IIM-A faculty during the next several weeks. The affiliation is taking place against the backdrop of IIM-A’s aspiration to become a globally acknowledged management school that functions in a manner consistent with the needs of a developing society, he said.

IIM-A took the first step towards global recognition by becoming the first and the only management school in the country to have been accorded EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) accreditation. EQUIS
is a leading international system of quality assessment, improvement and accreditation of higher education institutions of management and business administration.
