Placement at MSU’s science faculty goes hi-tech!

VADODARA: Campus placement at MS University (MSU) went high tech with science faculty arranging a video conference facility at its placement cell. It will also be the first faculty in the varsity to offer such facility to boost the placement process as well aims to provide gateways to interact with faculty members from foreign universities. This facility will be inaugurated on Friday and will be put to use right away.

Be it job interviews or conducting virtual classrooms, this facility is expected to make things easier from now onwards. The faculty is eyeing greater collaboration with universities abroad to conduct special guest lectures virtually. Even recruiting companies will now be able to interview prospective students without coming to the city.

“We were working to put this system in place for sometime now. This initiative has been taken to speed up placement process. Secondly, we also want to orient our students to scientific advancement taking place globally. That will now be possible through virtual classrooms. These sessions can be recorded and shared as well,” said officiating dean of science faculty, Nikhil Desai.

“This move is expected to attract more companies to the faculty for conducting campus placement. For companies, it would economical way to pick up talent from the faculty and students too need not incur expenditure to attend interviews. Our faculty managed to set-up this unit with faculty funds and in coming months we are going to add other advanced technologies,” added Desai.

MSU online: All faculty accounts to be centralised, computerised

MSU vice-chancellor Ramesh Goyal, during a deans’ meeting on Wednesday, informed that accounts of all faculties will be linked with university accounts. A seven-member team has been constituted to train the staff to operate software, backed by the expert guidance of a chartered accountant.

The faculties will submit their accounts online. These will automatically get transferred to university accounts. Accounts personnel of each department will be trained to operate the software. Every faculty has been surveyed to ascertain requirement of manpower and machines, as well as internet connectivity. Faculties will be provided the required internet connectivity and computer terminals to facilitate this system.

“A software called Tally’ is currently being used in varsity offices. I have asked that this software be uniformly accepted across all faculties. All deans should ensure the faculty accounts are interconnected. The head office will provide whatever help they require,” said Goyal.

The ambitious plan of computerising university accounts may resolve several issues and streamline the faculties. But, before implementing this system, there are several loopholes that need to be plugged to ensure its efficient implementation.

“In major faculties there is no accounts cadre, so how will this system be implemented,” questioned a dean present at the meeting. “We have been asked to have at least two people to handle accounts, and knowledge of Tally is essential. Right now,we’re going to need external help to manage our accounts,” he said.

MSU BCA students to celebrate the launch of Ubuntu & OpenSUSE

This is one fest in M S University (MSU) that will definitely be different from the usual students’ events. Install Fest – to be hosted by Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) students – will celebrate the launch of two operating systems by Linux Worldwide. Instead of the usual cultural and competitive events, visitors will be given demonstration of the systems and can even download it in laptops or CPUs as well as pen drives.

This event is on similar lines that happen in software hubs like Silicon Valley in USA on every weekend. The fest will begin with demonstration of the usage and features of the community driven operating systems – OpenSUSE and Ubuntu. BCA students will also orient people on different uses of Linux like coding, presentations, office, gaming, designing and other features in the Saturday event.

For students excited to learn about new technological development, Install Fest will provide a platform where one can interact with people from the industry. Apart from this, host students are also going to distribute free goodies to visitors.

“There will be a demo of the new features and lots of other small presentations. People can also walk-in with their laptops or personal computers and we will install Linux for them for free. Developers and users from the Linux community are expected to be present with students to share their real-world experiences,” said BCA student Kshitij Shah.

“This get-together is also aimed at connecting with Linux users so that they can get their doubts cleared. If someone is searching for projects there will be people from the industry to help them as well. Through this fest we want to educate people about Linux operating systems especially amongst youngsters,” added Shah

MSU social work faculty signs first int’l MoU

Students from MS University’s social work faculty will now get a chance to explore global social practises, with the faculty joining hands with a university in United Kingdom. In its first international pact, the faculty will collaborate for an exchange programme with Huddersfield University (HU).

As per the memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed between MSU and HU on Wednesday, the collaboration will be for three years during which teachers and students from social work faculty will visit HU to learn practises in UK and vice versa.

Students will stay for a period of 10 days. They will only have to bear the air fare with the host university bearing their other expenditure. The MoU was signed by MSU vice-chancellor Ramesh Goyal and Jan Firth, associate dean for planning and development in HU.

“This programme will help the varsity and faculty to understand various social policies and services in the area of social development. It will also pave way for regular exchange of ideas, thoughts and trends,” said dean of social work professor Aruna Khasgiwala.

“This exchange programme will also give us a platform to share our social set-ups. At the same time, we will get fresh ideas which can be implemented back home. A group of students will go to UK every year,” added dean of students and head of social work department professor M N Parmar.

Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University is a public university located at Patan, Gujrat, India. ‘Dharmsinh Desai University’ (DDU) is a State Level University for higher learning, situated in the city of Nadiad in Gujarat state in Western India. It was founded in 1968 by Dharmsinh Dadubhai Desai, who then was a Member of Parliament.
