New system: GU gives details of BSc exams
The Gujarat University (GU) has declared detailed information about BSc exams which will be conducted by the university following implementation of the Choice-Based Credit System(CBCS).
According to GU vice-chancellor Parimal Trivedi, as per the new examination system to be followed, the internal 30 marks which used to be calculated solely on the basis of the college exams has been divided into four parts. More »
GU launches probe into admission irregularities
At least 10 commerce colleges affiliated with Gujarat University (GU) could be in trouble as the GU has initiated a probe into admissions granted recently by these colleges.
The GU began the probe after receiving complaints that students with more than 65 to 70% marks are yet to get admission into any of these colleges. Several students’ unions made their representations before the GU vice-chancellor in the syndicate meeting on Sunday.
Admission process in more than 50 commerce colleges affiliated with the GU had recently concluded. These colleges have the capacity to admit a total of 26,000 students. Despite this, around 7,000 students are still waiting to get admission. Most of these students have more than 70% marks. More »
Admission in commerce colleges in Ahmedabad is House full !

Campus to career mela in Gujarat University
The first extensive recruitment exercise will be undertaken for the Gujarat University (GU) students on Sunday where students of arts, commerce and science will participate to get job. Some of the big names in the industry are expected to participate in the `Campus To Career’ mela to be held at the GU campus. Students will be offered pay packages ranging from Rs 8,000-30,000.
GU officials said that talks are also on with the industry representatives to give some relaxation to students who are selected for the jobs and yet want to pursue higher education along with earning their livelihood. “We intend to give jobs to at least 3,000 students”, GU officials said.
Vibrant Gujarat Summit: 74 education MoUs signed

Gujarat University launch courses in Yoga
Gujarat University (GU) in association with Indian Institute of Yogic Science & Research Foundation is introducing five new programmes as part of its concept Nirvana. These are: Two certificate courses for yoga instructors, a certificate course in yoga for character building, diploma in yoga, health and character and diploma in Ayuryogam.

16 new colleges qualify for Gujarat University affiliation
Only 16 of the 92 new institutes seeking affiliation with Gujarat University qualify to launch their courses as per the new rules issued by University Grant Commission (UGC). The report of the same has been submitted by scrutiny committee appointed by need committee of Gujarat University on Tuesday.

The final phase of admission process for BBA and BCA courses will begin this week. The Gujarat University (GU) will start the ‘counselling’ procedure, wherein students will be asked to decide which college they want to join, on Friday.
According to GU officials, 5,232 class XII pass-outs have applied for admission to BBA, while 5,184 want to study BCA. There are 1,200 seats in BBA colleges and 1,500 in BCA. This year, NRI and management quotas have been scrapped.
The counselling exercise, which will take place at GU’s IAS Centre, will be wrapped up in eight days.

Gujarat University affiliated BBA, BCA colleges Admission Started
The procedure for admissions to nine BBA colleges and 16 BCA colleges have been centralised this year after instances of irregularities, last year.

BBA, BCA & BCom admissions to begin on June 5 in Gujarat
The admission procedure for 15,000 BCom seats in the state will begin in the first week of June. As many as 65 commerce colleges in the state are affiliated to Gujarat University.
Those seeking admission to GU-affiliated BCom colleges can obtain forms from and submit the same to the respective colleges between June 5 and 9. The first, second and third merit list will be announced on June 10, June 15 and June 18 respectively, said university sources.

Gujarat University has introduced three certificate courses in crime investigation. These are Criminology and Forensics, Documentation and Handwriting Investigation and Fingerprint and Impression Investigation.
The courses will be of six-month duration and will have 40 seats each. Those with minimum 45 per cent marks in graduation are eligible to apply. Each course will have two exam papers.

B Sc admissions in Gujarat begin on May 21
With the Class 12 results set to be declared on May 20, the admission process of Gujarat University-affiliated science colleges with the Bachelors of Science course will begin from May 21. M G Science Institute, St Xavier’s College and C U Shah College will have admissions based on merit, while rest of the colleges in the city will have admissions on a first-come-first-served basis. GU to introduce semester system in PG courses!
Gujarat University (GU) is mulling over introducing semester system in post-graduation courses from the next academic year. The university has called for a meeting of heads of all departments on Sunday.
A meeting of joint board of vice-chancellors and education department was held in Rajkot three months ago, in which UGC’s instruction to start semester system in colleges was discussed. It was decided that the semester system should be introduced in PG courses on a trial basis first. More »
Self-finance institutes await Gujarat University nod for another fee hike
The fee hike issue taken up by self-financed institutes is yet to be resolved. Several self-financed institutes had asked the Gujarat University (GU) to permit them to increase the fee charged by them. But, the GU wanted these institutes to put forth reasons for hiking the fees. However, even after six months the institutes have failed to respond to queries put up by GU authorities.
These are self-financed institutes offering Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) and Bachelor of Commerce (Bcom) affiliated to GU.

Exam dilemma for Gujarat PG medical aspirants
Aspirants to the 1,015 PG seats in Gujarat’s medical colleges are a confused lot. Ten months after the Kalsaria Committee emphasized the need to have a common entrance examination across the state, the government is yet to take a stand on the issue.
Universities in the state have been conducting their own entrance exams for the PG medical seats for several years now. However, a common complaint is that most varsities prefer their own students over those from others. After several allegations of the partiality came forth, a panel was formed under the leadership of MLA Kanubhai Kalsaria to look into the matter and suggest an alternative.
