Gujarat government set to hire 1 lakh people by 2012
The general administration department(GAD) has instructed all ministers to provide it with information on vacancies in their departments

Age limit for vidya sahayak is 38 now in Gujarat.
The Gujarat government has decided to relax the age limit for hiring vidya sahayaks (teaching assistants) in higher primary schools by five years, even as it announced that 13,000 more vidya sahayaks will be appointed in the current year.
Giving details about the decision, state government spokespersons Jaynarayan Vyas and Saurabh Patel said the relaxation will apply across all categories of vidya sahayaks. More »
Sardar Patel Statue of Unity to cost Rs 2,000 cr
It’s official. The proposed 182-metre high statue of Sardar Patel downstream of the Narmada dam will cost Rs 2,000 crore as against earlier estimates of Rs 1,000 crore.
The Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL) has invited expressions of interest from reputed consultants for the project. Already, state government officials are in talks with builders of Burj Khalifa – Samsung Construction & Technology (C&T) – to take up the project.
The state government proposes to rope in Gujarati diaspora, top business houses and general public to collect money for the project. More »
Gujarat government hires 50,000 youths this year
Gujarat government has hired 50,000 employees in 2011. With this, the number of government employees has risen to 5,16,936 from 4,83,118 in 2010. Another 20,000 youths are expected to be hired by 2012.
Maximum jobs were created in the home department. The second highest is water supply department. As many as 12,069 youths were recruited in the police department. However, there was no vacancy in education department. The sachivalaya and legislative department hired no one.
The government has focused on five departments: Petroleum, climate change, urban, woman and child, as well as science and technology. There are only 16 people working in climate change department and 40 in science and technology department.

10,000 assistant teacher recruitment completed in Gujarat
The Gujarat government Saturday issued appointment letters to about 10,000 vidhyasahayaks (assistant teachers) recruited through an online process. IBM to help create ‘Little Africa’ in Gujarat
In a bid to provide employment to youth of the African-origin Sidi community settled in Saurashtra, Gujarat government has planned to
create a ‘Little Africa’ on the fringes of Gir forest by developing a theme-based resort.
The resort to be developed on 25 acres of land would be promoted by global giant IBM. The tribal development department of the state government has entered into a tie-up with IBM India for the project. More »
Hyundai may set up plant in Gujarat
Auto major Hyundai has said the company does not rule out the possibility of setting up a manufacturing facility in Gujarat in the
future. Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) managing director H S Lheem said here on Tuesday that the company was invited by the Gujarat government to set up a manufacturing facility in the state.
“We don’t have any immediate plans. But, we will surely consider Gujarat whenever we have a future plan in place,” said Lheem, who was impressed by the state’s support to Tata Motor’s Nano project. He was in the city to inaugurate a new dealership Aldiam Hyundai’ in Makarpura.

Education Campus Changa to get university status
Education Campus Changa (ECC) is all set to get private university status from the state government. The educational campus managed by
Shri Charotar Moti Sattavis Patidar Kelavani Mandal, which so far offers programmes in technical professions, has also chalked out a Rs 250-crore plan to enter into healthcare education and delivery system this year.
According to sources, ECC which has been waiting to become Charotar University of Science & Technology (CHARUSAT) since its inception in 2000, is set to get state government’s nod during the monsoon session of state Assembly that ends in July. More »

Microsoft & Gujarat Govt. Sign MoU to Enhance Use of IT in Education
Microsoft India Pvt. Ltd. has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat government to enhance the adoption and use of IT in the state education sector.
As part of the agreement, Microsoft will invest in enabling educators in the state to connect with each other, increase access to technology and training for learners in classrooms and campuses and thereby enhance career opportunities.
