HTAT For Head Teacher(Principal) for Primary Schools in Gujarat

HTAT Exam

For promotion to the post of Head Teacher in primary school a teacher must clear Head Teacher Aptitude Test (HTAT) to be eligible for the post of Head Teacher according to a GR issued by the Education Department.

Gujarat Secondary and High Secondary Education Board will conduct the HTAT. It will have multiple choice questions like TAT. The question paper will have Optical Mark Recognition. It will not have negative marking system.

A teacher will have to clear two papers each of 75 marks. To qualify in HTAT a teacher will have to score 60 per cent marks. The first part will have general knowledge questions while the second question paper will cover syllabus of primary courses.

The test is likely to be conducted in February. It is to fill up around 5,000 posts in government primary schools. Teachers need five years experience to apply for the post of principal which is now termed as Head Teacher.

30 grace mark for Hindi-medium students of 11th Science

About 4,000 students will be benefitted if GSHSEB considers application pointing to the translation errors in chemistry paper

The decision to give grace marks to Gujarati and English medium students in chemistry landed Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) once again in the same situation after a demand to grant grace marks to Hindi medium students was raised.

The board received an application pointing to translation errors in 30 marks’ questions in chemistry.

It was brought to the board’s notice that the Hindi medium paper creates confusion due to shoddy translation when compared with Gujarati-and English-medium papers. About 4,000 Hindi-medium students can get the benefit if the board agrees for the grace marks.

Board official R R Varsani said that it will review the paper and no injustice will be done to any student.
Giving in to parents’ protest over goof-ups in the paper, GSHEB had announced that Gujarati medium students will get 8 grace marks for four questions which had all incorrect options while English medium students will be given five grace marks for three questions which had all incorrect options.

Now, even candidates seeking a teacher’s jobin class I to VII will have to clear the Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET). The state education department has made this test mandatory for those teaching in primary schools from June 2011.

The education department recently issued a circular stating that all candidates applying for jobs in primary schools to teach in class I-VIII will have to appear for the TET and score minimum 60% marks in the test.

Minimum 60% marks required in TET
Test will included Logic, Aptitude, General Knowledge and Teaching attitude.
Test Score will be valid till 5 years
Candidate can take as many as tests
Apart from score in the test, marks scored by candidates in HSC, graduation, post-graduation, BEd courses will also be considered to make the final merit list while recruiting teachers in primary schools.
Test is compulsory for all kind of schools

Education department officials that the introduction of TET is in lines with the department’s initiative to improve the over-all standard of education. Recently, TET was made compulsory for candidates seeking jobs in secondary and higher secondary schools from June 2011. This exam will be conducted by Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB).

Gujarat students may suffer in competitive exams

The recommendation by the 14-member committee to introduce semester system in class XI and XII, if accepted by Gujarat Secondary and

Higher Secondary Education Board (), might prove disadvantageous to Gujarat’s students as far as competitive examinations like All India Engineering/Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) and Pre Medical Test (PMT) are concerned.

Former chairman of the Board Ambubhai Patel believes that the semester system, if introduced, could retard their competitiveness at the national levels for admissions in medical and engineering courses. “It will be big loss to Gujarat’s students as they will be taking objective exams of first two semester and descriptive ones in last two semesters. This preparation for the last semester would practically keep them out of touch with rest of the syllabus, whereas the entrance tests are conducted on basis of a combined syllabus of class XI and XII. Our students might find it more difficult to cope with such a situation,” Patel explained.

Principals of various schools agree with this view, but they agree that in the long run it is a better system.

874 schools in Gujarat await permission to start academic session

Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) is yet to clear 874 applications for secondary and higher secondary private schools, whose academic sessions are scheduled to begin from June 8.

According to GSHSEB official sources, the applications are pending since September last year. “The board had received 523 applications for secondary, 201 for higher secondary (general stream) and 150 for science stream schools, which find themselves in the doldrums as they are yet to get permission to start functioning, while the academic session is in June,” said an official.

“Students in those schools which had already admitted them without waiting for the permission are the worst affected, as they won’t be able to get admission elsewhere in the middle of academic session,” the official added.

“It’s a sheer negligence on the part of the board, which should’ve given the clearance in April itself. Clearance is given now is of no use as hardly any student will opt for these schools?” said Bhaskar Patel, Ahmedabad School Management Association president.

Meanwhile, in a meeting of its executive committee on Tuesday, the GSHSEB decided to grant permission to those schools which have fulfilled the board’s guidelines by next week
