Highest so far, 24 Gujarati students join IIT-G

The Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IIT-G) has given admission to 24 Gujarati students this year. This is the highest number of local students joining the institute ever since its inception four years back.

IIT-G director Sudhir Jain said that 116 students joined the institute in 2011. “This is the highest number of Gujarati students joining IIT-G in one year. In the last three years, total 55 Gujarati students had become part of the institution,” Jain said. Of the 24 students, 20 are boys while four are girls. Interestingly, there are also a number of Gujarati students who have decided to come back to their roots when they chose to opt for IIT-G over other IITs. The families of such students are settled outside Gujarat for generations now, but they chose to study at IIT-G as they consider it a fast developing and safe state. More »

GTU sets up MBA skills council

Gujarat Technological University (GTU) held its first meeting of the MBA skill development councils at Shri Jairambhai Patel Institute of Business Management and Computer Applications at Gandhinagar on June 25.

In a new initiative, GTU has set up MBA skills councils in the areas of financial services, human resources and marketing management. The skill councils have been set up to improve the innovation and application of skills and knowledge of the management students. More »

IIT-Gn( Gandhinagar) to launch new PG courses

IIT Gandhinagar (IITGn) is one among the new IITs started from the academic year 2008-09. It is located at Chandkheda, about 15 minutes drive from both Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Ahmedabad is known for its excellent infrastructure with thriving industries, prestigious academic and research institutes and an ambiance which encourages excellence and entrepreneurship. Patni computer to recruit 350 by 2011 end in Gandhinagar

One more IT SEZ withdrawn from Gujarat Vadodara

Citing environmental hazards, Strength Real Estate Private Limited, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) floated by Mumbai-based K Raheja Corp, has withdrawn the formal approval granted for an IT/ITeS special economic zone (SEZ) at Vemali near Vadodara in Gujarat.

Spread across an area of 13.74 hectares, the IT SEZ was supposed to come up on the banks of the river Vishwamitri. However, environmental hazards prevented the SPV from moving further. “Any construction work on that site would have deteriorated the situation,” said a source close to the development. GESIA set to expand operations in Gujarat

Having already attracted over 250 IT companies from Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, the Gujarat Electronics & Software Industries Association (GESIA) now intends to expand its operations in the state.

Commonwealth Express to showcase relevance of IT in Gandhinagar

The Commonwealth Express (CW Express), a special exhibition train designed to promote the mega event that will take place in Delhi, will be on the Gandhinagar railway station in Gujarat on September 14 and 15, 2010.

The train contains 14 coaches, of which six coaches are devoted to telling the success story of information technology (IT) in India. Five other coaches provide a curtain raiser for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. The contribution of Indian Railways to the sports and a list of railway sportspersons who have won Arjuna awards, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awards, Dronacharya award, Padmashree and Dhyanchand awards have been displayed in a separate coach in the train. BSNL launches 3G services in Vadodara

Placement fair gets off to top start at DA-IICT

The placement fair at Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information & Communication Technology (DA-IICT) in Gandhinagar began only 10 days ago, but students are already in a mood to celebrate.
