4,600 to take entrance test for SPIPA
With more and more students seeking a spot in the civil services in Gujarat, this year a record 4,600 students will take an entrance test on Sunday for Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA), a coaching institute for civil services examination.
SPIPA has been coaching aspirants for civil services exams since 1972. “This year the number of aspirants for the 72 seats was the highest compared to past years. Gujarati youths have become more aware about the career options in the civil services and so there has been an increase in the number of students taking the entrance exam every year,” said J M Acharya, joint director SPIPA. UPSC prelims to give way to aptitude test?
Focusing on aptitude of candidates to meet challenges of demanding life in civil services, the UPSC on Thursday advocated replacing the existing Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination with an Aptitude Test.
“UPSC is convinced of the need for important changes in the method of recruitment to the higher civil services that are the vehicle for public service delivery. One of the recommendations made by the commission to the government is that a Civil Service Aptitude Test replace the existing Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination,” UPSC chairman Prof D P Agrawal said.
