The 59th convocation of Gujarat Vidyapith will be held at the university premises here on Thursday. Noted Gandhian Chunibhai Vaidya will be the chief guest at the function and will award degree certificates to the students.
A total of 925 students will be awarded degree and diploma certificates this year, which is the highest number till date. Earlier, the number of students ranged from 750 to 800.
Gujarat Vidyapith has a rule that all students are given their certificates in person only. This year, senior citizens, who had passed out from the university decades ago, will also be present to collect their degree certificates for reasons ranging from getting a US visa or preparing for pension documents.
Sumant Rai Nayak, 68, who owns a chikoo farm in Navsari, has come down to Ahmedabad to get his graduation degree certificate. His children stay in the US and he feels that the degree certificate will come in handy for visa purposes.
Bhanubhai Jadav completed BEd in 1983 and started out working as a clerk in a Vadodara school. Now he has become a principal and is nearing retirement. He has come to collect his certificate so that he does not face any problem in getting his pension. More »Like

Mudra Institute of Communication Ahmedabad (MICA) will, once again, accept Common Admission Test (CAT) scores for admission to its flagship course this year. The institute had abandoned the CAT test from its admission process in 2010 and 2011 to use its own written test – ‘MICA test’ (MICAT).

Addressing the students of Ahmedabad University (AU), chairman and chief mentor of Infosys N R Narayana Murthy said that the development in the country is disproportionate. Following the footsteps of the Ahmedabad Education Society that set up Ahmedabad University, the Gujarat Law Society is planning to set up its own university. The proposal will be submitted to the state government next month. If it is sanctioned, the city will get its ninth varsity.

The recently-instituted Ahmedabad University has entered into collaboration with Judge Business School, Cambridge University (UK) to develop an in-house executive MBA program targeted at owner-managed industries.
Cambridge University is ranked the second-best university in the world. The programme, to be jointly designed by faculty of both universities, will also feature a short stint for students at Cambridge, with some faculty of the Ahmedabad University also slated to be trained there. The trust that gave Gujarat University shelter during initial days has decided to launch a university. Ahmedabad University (AU) of Ahmedabad Education Society (AES) is all set to offer admissions to students for the academic year 2009-10.
In the first year, the university will have two schools School of Management and Commerce and School of ICT with 3,135 students.
