Self-finance institutes await Gujarat University nod for another fee hike
The fee hike issue taken up by self-financed institutes is yet to be resolved. Several self-financed institutes had asked the Gujarat University (GU) to permit them to increase the fee charged by them. But, the GU wanted these institutes to put forth reasons for hiking the fees. However, even after six months the institutes have failed to respond to queries put up by GU authorities.
These are self-financed institutes offering Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) and Bachelor of Commerce (Bcom) affiliated to GU.
The colleges had demanded that they should be permitted to charge a higher fee and on May 30 GU asked 12 institutes offering BCA, nine institutes of BCom and eight institute offering BBA, to submit details regarding the faculty and staff, the infrastructure, library and laboratory.
“The fee hike demanded by these institutes is of a substantial amount. Institutes offering BCom wants to hike fee from Rs 5,500 to Rs 7000, BBA institutes from Rs 10,000 to Rs 14,000 and the BCA institutes from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000. After the institutes failed to respond to the notice by GU within the one month’s time that was given to them, the university denied them the permission to hike fee. The self-financed institutes took the matter to court, where the HC ordered that the SFIs should provide details asked by the university,” said Manish Doshi, a GU syndicate member.
The SFIs failed to provide the details even after the HC’s order. The matter was then taken up in the syndicate meeting held on October 11. “Notices were again issued to this institutes but they have still not responded with the details. The syndicate is proposing the university to take strict action against these SFIs for not taking the university orders seriously and delaying the matter,” he added.
