B Com first merit list of Gujarat University cut-off up by 5 pc from last year’s

The second and the third merit lists will be announced on June 15 and June 18 respectively. With the first merit list of the BCom course out on Friday evening, the city commerce colleges witnessed huge rush of the students and their parents. As many as 65 commerce colleges in the state affiliated to Gujarat University have received 1,25,000 forms filled between June 5 and June 9 by the students.
The cut-off percentage of the first merit list of H L College of Commerce is 81. For S M Patel Institute of Commerce and G L S Institute of Commerce, the cut-off was 80 per cent. Few English medium colleges have declared two merit lists — one for Gujarati medium students wanting to switch over to English medium (lower level list) and another for English medium students (higher level list).

Students, whose names appear in the first merit list, can submit the fees till June 14, 2010. The second and the third merit lists will be announced on June 15 and June 18 respectively. Experts say, “Due to good results of class 12 this year, the cut off in the first merit list has gone up by 3 per cent to 5 per cent as compared to last year. There will be a reduction of 5-7 per cent from the first merit list cut-off in the second merit list and 3 per cent less in the third merit list.

Moreover, an increased trend of Gujarati medium students opting for English medium has been this year.” The first, second and third merit lists of candidates seeking admission under reservation quota will be declared on June 21, 24 and 26. If the quota seats remains vacant, they will be converted to open category seats

69.17 per cent clear third year Bcom
Gujarat University announced the results of TY Bcom on Friday. The pass percentage is 69.17. As many as 19, 740 students had appeared for the final year B Com exam. Of these, 2,179 got first class, 6,016 students got second class and 5,215 got pass class.

120 enroll for BCA course on day one
A total of 120 students got enrolled for the BCA course on the first day of counselling at Gujarat University. The varsity had called 600 students, including physically challenged and Scheduled Tribes counselling on Friday. The counselling for BCA will continue until June 15 after which the process for admission to BBA will begin and continue until June 19.

The university has received 5184 applications for BCA and 5232 applications of BBA courses. The procedure for admissions to nine BBA colleges and 16 BCA colleges have been centralised this year after several instances of irregularities were reported, last year.

The minimum qualification for admission to BBA and BCA courses is 45 per cent marks in class XII for open category and 40 per cent for the reserved categories. University officials can be contacted for information on admissions under NRI quota. This year, the university has done away with management quota.

CBSE students can apply for Vidhya Sahayak post

Gujarat high court on Friday directed the state government to consider applications from students who have cleared their Class XII from schools in Gujarat but their schools are affiliated to boards of other states. With this directive, now they can apply for the 10,000 posts of Vidhya Sahayaks to be filled by the sate education department.

The single bench of Justice DH Vaghela of Gujarat high court passed an interim order to this effect while acting on the 30-odd petitions moved by students of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

State education authorities had invited applications from eligible candidates for 10,000 posts of ‘Vidhya Sahayaks’ across the state through an advertisement, published in a local daily on May 26. SH Iyer, one of the lawyers of the petitioners, said that eligibility criterion for applying to the posts was that the candidates must have cleared their Class XII examination from state education board.

While passing the interim order, Justice Vaghela directed the state government to consider all eligible candidates who have passed their Class XII examination from schools located in Gujarat but affiliated to any other board in the country for applying for Vidhya Sahayaks.

The last date for applying for the post is June 6, and the procedure to apply for the posts has been made available online.

VNSGU hikes fee of BCom course by 45%

The fee hike by 45 per cent in self-financed Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) course in Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) has come as a big jolt to the students. Besides BCom, fees have also been raised for courses like Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) and Bachelor of Science (BSc).

This decision was taken at a syndicate meeting of the university which ended on Friday. The fee hike was demanded by college authorities on the ground that their cost of operation has gone up. The current fee in self-financed colleges for BCom is Rs 7,500 per annum including tuition fee and other charges. The fee has been raised to Rs 11,230 per annum for BCom, a hike of 45 per cent. The decision will affect a large number of students particularly of self-financed BCom course whose number is largest in VNSGU.

The earlier fee for BBA was Rs 19,000 per annum which has been raised to Rs 20,730. The fee for BCA course has been raised from Rs 20,000 to Rs 23,230 while for BSc course, the fee has been raised from Rs 18,500 to Rs 23,730.

The university’s decision will affect the students across south Gujarat. Allegations are being made by administrators of other self-financed colleges that the fee hike for commerce stream has been made as many principals of commerce colleges are in the university syndicate. The students are yet to raise a strong objection to the decision to hike fees by the university. A minor fee hike has also been made for grant-in-aid colleges too.

GCET exam centres on first come first served basis

Tuesday is the last day to register for the test for admission to MBA, MCA courses

Centres for the Gujarat Common Entrance Test will be allotted on first come first served basis to whoever has applied for it. Around 23,000 students had registered for the test by Monday to join the MBA or MCA courses.

The online registration closes on June 8 and tests will be held from June 28 to July 1 and the next from July 5 to 8. All students have the option of appearing twice and the best of two will be considered for merit. Earlier, they were given choice of three options for examination centres.

There are in all 24 centres in 12 cities to choose from. Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Kadi, Rajkot, Changa, Vadodara, Visnagar, Bhandu, Himmatnagar, Vallabh Vidyanagar and Bhavnagar are the centres.

In Ahmedabad, Nirma, L J Commerce College, Chandkheda Engineering College, Som Lalit and Indus Engineering College are assigned as examination centres.

At one centre in one session around 450 students can sit for examinations at a time. There will be three such sessions at each centre.

The merit rank of the candidates will be displayed on the website of Gujarat Technological University on July 10. The first round of counselling and seat allotment will take place on July 20

BBA, BCA admissions enter final phase in Gujarat!

The final phase of admission process for BBA and BCA courses will begin this week. The Gujarat University (GU) will start the ‘counselling’ procedure, wherein students will be asked to decide which college they want to join, on Friday.

According to GU officials, 5,232 class XII pass-outs have applied for admission to BBA, while 5,184 want to study BCA. There are 1,200 seats in BBA colleges and 1,500 in BCA. This year, NRI and management quotas have been scrapped.

The counselling exercise, which will take place at GU’s IAS Centre, will be wrapped up in eight days.

This year, the university has implemented a centralised admission system.

The distribution of forms among students who have secured at least 45 per cent of marks in class XII began at 10 centres on June 2.

GU to invite applications for new colleges Nine BBA and 16 BCA colleges are affiliated to the varsity. There is a need for more colleges, and a GU committee on Tuesday decided to invite applications for new colleges.

Gujarat Vidyapeeth offers lots of degree and diploma courses

The admission season has begun and like every year there is a lot of confusion among students about colleges and the different courses they offer. Today, we provides you details of courses run by Gujarat Vidyapeeth.

The institute, founded by Mahatma Gandhi, offers degrees in various post-graduation (PG) and professional courses. One can apply for admission till June 10.

PG degrees are offered in Gandhian philosophy, languages, economics, sociology, computer applications, journalism, human resource development and social work. The institute has 30 seats for each of these courses. Mphil is offered in science, non-violence, peace studies and conflict resolution, among others.

Students can also opt for PG diploma in disciplines such as yoga (20 seats); audio-visual (15 seats); computer hardware & networking (20 seats) and computer application (30 seats).

The institute also accepts enrollments in bachelor’s courses. For instance, one can do bachelor’s in education (BEd). There are 100 seats for seekers of this degree. All students who have scored at least 40 per cent of marks can seek admission to Gujarat Vidyapeeth. There is an entrance test for some PG courses.

The institute’s Randheja campus offers bachelor’s degrees in social science, economics & rural development and HRM. There are 30 seats in each of these disciplines. Its Sadra campus teaches microbiology and physical education.
