Gujarat State School Textbook Board will be publishing Question banks for first sem Class XI

Gujarat State School Textbook Board will be publishing question banks for reference and to help students grasp textbook material better

Question banks for students of Class XI (science) of all four subjects will be published by Gujarat State School Textbook Board by mid-September. Semester system has been introduced in the state in the academic year 2011- 2012. In the year after, the semester system will be carried forward.

Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Higher Education Board had declared that the first and third semester exams would be entirely objective type, whereas the second and fourth semester exams will be a mix of subjective and objective type questions.

“The question banks were made by experts in the respective subjects. A question was picked from every line in the text book to ensure that the entire material of the textbook will be covered,” source said.

So far, only the first semester question banks for mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology have been prepared.

“These contain multiple choice questions which will carry 70 marks and the remaining 30 marks will have short questions,” the source added.

The authorities feel that this method will ensure better understanding and knowledge of the subjects. Preparation for competitive exams with the help of these question banks will be easier as well.

Soon, the question banks for the other semesters will be ready and printed simultaneously.

The semester rule has been implemented from this academic year. The weightage of each paper would be 25 per cent. At the end of the fourth semester in class XII, the board would add up the marks scored by the students in each semester as per the weightage and declare the final result.

Board officials said that the semester system is likely to increase the burden on the board which will now conduct four exams but the aim is to reduce the stress on the students.

New system: GU gives details of BSc exams

The Gujarat University (GU) has declared detailed information about BSc exams which will be conducted by the university following implementation of the Choice-Based Credit System(CBCS).

According to GU vice-chancellor Parimal Trivedi, as per the new examination system to be followed, the internal 30 marks which used to be calculated solely on the basis of the college exams has been divided into four parts.

The college exams will be of 15 internal marks while five marks each would be given for assignment, seminar and attendance.

The overall passing mark has been raised from 35 to 36. Of the 70 marks final university exam, the student will be required to score minimum 25 marks while minimum 11 out of 30 internal marks will have to be obtained to pass a particular paper.

The 70 marks of the final paper will have four subjective questions while the fifth question will be objective in nature and will include multiple-choice questions, match the following and other questions.

Trivedi said that the student who have 75 per cent and above attendance will get five out of five marks in attendance while those with less than 50 per cent attendance will not be given any mark out of five internal marks. Those who have attendance above 50 per cent will be given one mark.

Significantly, the students in science who were so far given only six groups in physics, biology, chemistry and maths subjects will be given a choice of 20 groups from the first year itself. These will include subjects like computer science, microbiology, electronics, environment science and others.

MICA Go Common Admission Test (CAT) scores for admission

Mudra Institute of Communication Ahmedabad (MICA) will, once again, accept Common Admission Test (CAT) scores for admission to its flagship course this year. The institute had abandoned the CAT test from its admission process in 2010 and 2011 to use its own written test – ‘MICA test’ (MICAT).

The admission for 2012-14 batch of post-graduate programme diploma in management (communications) PGDM(C) will adopt a three step process of CAT, MICAT, and group exercise (GE) and personal interview (PI).

A recent directive given by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has forced MICA to consider CAT scores. “AICTE issued a notification last December making it compulsory for all management institutes registered under the council to consider the score of any one of five national tests – CAT, XAT, MAT, ATMA or JMET- in the admission processes,” said associate director at MICA, Arbind Sinha.

“We chose to use CAT as we were already familiar with it.”

Apart from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A), the seven management institutes from the state which will use CAT scores this year are MICA, Amrut Mody School of Management of Ahmedabad University in Ahmedabad, Faculty of Technology Management of CEPT University in Ahmedabad, Institute of Management of Nirma University in Ahmedabad, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI) in Gandhinagar, School of Petroleum Management of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University in Gandhinagar and Auro University in Surat.

In the years to come, MICA is likely to drop CAT scores from its admission process once again. “We are in the process of registering MICAT as one of the national tests recognized by AICTE,” said executive registrar of MICA, K G K Pillai.

17 colleges ordered to appoint qualified teachers for PG courses by GU

After AICTE allows 17 colleges to run postgraduate courses, GTU orders them to appoint faculties with proper qualification by August 25 if they were really keen on offering the courses.

A high-level meeting of Gujarat Technological University (GTU) officials was called on Tuesday to discuss All India Council for Technical Education’s (AICTE) approval to 17 colleges to run postgraduate courses like MPharm, MTech, and ME. The committee has ordered these colleges to appoint faculties with requisite qualifications by August 25. In case these colleges fail to appoint faculties, they will not be allowed to offer PG courses in affiliation with GTU. “Normally only colleges that have taught graduate-level courses for four years are allowed to introduce PG-level courses. But these 17 colleges don’t meet the criteria. Moreover, they don’t have enough teachers with requisite qualification to teach PG courses,” said a committee member on condition of anonymity.

According to GTU sources, the four years of teaching graduate level courses gives colleges time to set up infrastructure that will enable them to allow PG courses too. But these colleges have no such infrastructure. In such a scenario, the quality of education will be affected. Postgraduation requires higher-level of teaching and guidance.

As per norms, for PG courses, there should be a professor and an associate professor, with one of them being a PhD. “GTU has relaxed the norms a little and if the professor has more than five years of experience in teaching, he can teach a PG course despite not having a doctorate. However, we don’t know why AICTE has granted permission to these 17 colleges to teach postgraduate courses.”

Admissions to begin
The admissions for M Pharm will be held from August 25 to August 27 and M Tech admissions from August 28 to August 31. The approved colleges have been asked by GTU to appoint necessary teachers by August 25.

If they fail to do so, they won’t be allowed to teach PG courses while being affiliated to GTU and the admission committee for professional courses will not consider them for the admission process.

However, authorities of these colleges say, “It is not always easy to get faculties to teach masters-level courses in Computer, IT and several other branches. Those who are highly qualified in these subjects are not keen to teach. So we have to settle for teachers who are less qualified but interested in teaching the subject.”

2. કેટલીક યુનીવર્સીટીમાં થીયરી અને પ્રેક્ટીકલ ના ગુણ જુદા દર્શાવેલા નથી હોતા. આવા કિસ્સામાં અરજદારે થીયરી અને પ્રેક્ટીકલ બન્ને માં ફાઈનલ માર્કશીટ માં દર્શાવેલ કુલ ગુણ અને મેળવેલ ગુણ દર્શાવવા. દા.ત. જો ફાઈનલ માર્કશીટમાં 1400 માંથી 900 ગુણ દર્શાવેલા હોય તો થીયરીમાં કુલ 1400 માંથી 900 ગુણ દર્શાવવા અને પ્રેક્ટીકલ માં પણ કુલ 1400 માંથી 900 ગુણ દર્શાવવા.

3. ફાઈનલ માર્કશીટમાં જે કુલ ગુણ અને મેળવેલ ગુણ દર્શાવેલા હોય એ પ્રમાણે ફોર્મ માં એન્ટ્રી કરવી. દા.ત. જો ફાઈનલ માર્કશીટમાં છેલ્લા 2 સેમેસ્ટરના ગુણ હોય તો તે પ્રમાણે ગુણ દર્શાવવા અને જો છેલ્લા 3 સેમેસ્ટરના ગુણ હોય તો તે પ્રમાણે ગુણ દર્શાવવા.

4. થીયરી સિવાય ના ગુણ (જેવા કે ટર્મ વર્ક, પ્રોજેક્ટ, ટ્રેનીંગ,વગેરે) પ્રેક્ટીકલ માં દર્શાવવા.

5. એક વર્ષ ના ડીપ્લોમાં કોર્સ જેવા કે PGDCA, DCA, DCS માન્ય નથી.

6. જો પરીક્ષા MPEC સિસ્ટમ પ્રમાણે પાસ કરેલ હોય તો TOP 10 વિષય ના ગુણ દર્શાવવા.

2639 Superviser instructor needed in ITI colleges of Gujarat (detgujarat.org)

No NEET in Gujarat this year

The state government on Wednesday declared it will not hold National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for medical colleges in state this year. The government spokesperson said that the union government law will not be implemented in Gujarat. NEET will now be held in 2012.

State Health minister Jaynarayan Vyas said, “The test will come into force from 2012. Students wishing to pursue in paramedical or dentistry in Gujarat, will have to appear for GujCET. If the NEET is introduced in the state, students will have to appear for a series of tests.”

If NEET is implemented here, it will allow class XII students to sit in a single entrance examination to get admission to almost all medical colleges in India.

Gujarat government set to hire 1 lakh people by 2012

Is the Modi government getting into election mode? Assembly elections are a good 16 months away, yet the state government has initiated several populist measures. The latest in that series is the move to hire a whopping one lakh people.

The significance of the figure could be gauged from the fact that the governemnt has been able to expand the number of people in its employ by only 2.2 lakh over the last 15 years.

As the first step towards the massive hiring exercise, the general administration department has instructed all ministers to provide it with information vacancies in their departments. The ministers have to furnish the data within three days.

Sources in the chief minister’s office said that Modi has told the ministers to give their report to Urban Department Minister Nitin Patel. According to a quick estimate, a minimum of one lakh youths will get employment if all these vacancies are filled by 2012.

CMO officials pointed out that about 50,000 youths would get government jobs this year. The home department has already absorbed the highest number of youths – 12,069. This is followed by the water supply department. Once these 50,000 people are hired, the total number of state government employees will go up to 516,936. Last year, the figure was 483,118.

At present, 27 departments have 272,176 employees and the district panchayats employ 244,760. The salary bill for these employees come to about Rs 20,000 crore a month.

15,000 employees retire every year
Sources pointed out that nearly 15,000 employees retire in a year and in this financial year as many as 14,657 would go home.

Incidentally, the state government froze recruitment for a few years and though it started hiring people about three years ago, the percentage of vacant positions in the state administration has gone up to 40.

A source in the Directorate of Pension and Provided Fund said, “We sent a report to the general administration department on employees of 30 departments who are retiring over the next six years. It is a serious situation as more than 1 lakh employees will retire in six years.”

Government Employees Association coordination committee Secretary Girish Raval said, “There exists nearly 2.3 lakh vacancies in 30 departments. This accounts for about 40 per cent of the sanctioned strength. Only education department has near-normal situation right now.”

Incidentally, despite thousands of MoUs that were signed during Vibrant Gujarat Investors summits, employment generation has not increased in the state over the last eight years. According to the MoUs, 48 lakh jobs should have been created in the state.

However, In the last eight years, only 2.7 lakh people have got new jobs. The government’s own report says that the Vibrant summits have failed to have any impact on employment generation.

In fact, the total number of employment is less than that if a 15-year span is considered. In 1995, the number of people on the government roll was 17,19,099. In 2010, the figure has risen to 19,40,002, representing a creation of only 2.2 lakh new jobs.
