Kankaria to be developed on lines of Essel World
Good news for Amdavadis who are still in touch with their childish side. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is now planning to set up a world class amusement park at the Kankaria lake, at par with Essel World in Mumbai.
The area where the amusement park will be set up is only 3,000 sq meter. “The area is too small to compare it with Essel World, but we want to have some rides which are equal to or better than the Mumbai park,” AMC officials said.
The AMC has invited expression of interest to set up an amusement park. Presently, around 3,000 sq meter of the lakefront adjoining the Balvatika area is available for creation of this amusement park.” More »
GTU sets up MBA skills council
Gujarat Technological University (GTU) held its first meeting of the MBA skill development councils at Shri Jairambhai Patel Institute of Business Management and Computer Applications at Gandhinagar on June 25.
In a new initiative, GTU has set up MBA skills councils in the areas of financial services, human resources and marketing management. The skill councils have been set up to improve the innovation and application of skills and knowledge of the management students. More »
AAU, IRMA join hands to create rural managers
Two premier educational institutions from India’s milk capital Anand — the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) and the Anand Agriculture University (AAU) — have joined hands to create a unique breed of rural managers.
They will soon launch a programme that will allow a BTech (dairy technology) student of AAU to directly get admission in IRMA’s post graduate programme in rural management (PRM). The student becomes eligible to take IRMA’s specially designed entrance test after clearing the first year of the BTech course. In five years, the students will pass out with two degrees — B Tech and PRM. Once AAU students complete the four-year programme, they will stay at IRMA for a year and complete the rest of syllabus. AMTS Bus Schedule & Station info on Google Map soon
Has the hassle of knowing the right bus number to your destination stopped you from boarding an AMTS bus? Well, now the information is just a mouse click away. AMTS route information, complete with bus numbers, will now be available on Google Maps.
Google India on Tuesday announced about inclusion of AMTS bus services and DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) to Google Transit. The company has already made available details of Mumbai, Bangalore and Pune bus services on Google Maps.
“A team of two officials from a private company had visited Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation some six months back. The officials said that they wanted information about the AMTS routes which they will then provide to Google,” said M S Patel, transport manager, AMC.
AMC had provided the company officials with complete route map and details about the AMTS fleet. However, the corporation has yet not received any intimation from Google about inclusion of AMTS routes on Google Maps. More »
Sardar Patel Statue of Unity to cost Rs 2,000 cr
It’s official. The proposed 182-metre high statue of Sardar Patel downstream of the Narmada dam will cost Rs 2,000 crore as against earlier estimates of Rs 1,000 crore.
The Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL) has invited expressions of interest from reputed consultants for the project. Already, state government officials are in talks with builders of Burj Khalifa – Samsung Construction & Technology (C&T) – to take up the project.
The state government proposes to rope in Gujarati diaspora, top business houses and general public to collect money for the project. More »

MTS eyes 30% CDMA market share in Gujarat
Having rolled out its prepaid CDMA mobile telephony services, MTS, in Gujarat, Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) is now eyeing to grab a market share of 30 per cent in the state. CAPEX plans – Siemens plans INR 1200 investment in Gujarat
Having inaugurated the second phase of its steam turbine and compressor manufacturing facility at Vadodara, Siemens Ltd has chalked out INR 1,200 crore CAPEX plan for the next two years in the state of Gujarat.
While the company has already invested INR 275 crore of the amount for the second phase of turbine and compressor plant, the company has also planned to expand the existing unit, apart from setting up transformers and wind turbine manufacturing units in the region. More »

Adani wins bid to develop Orissa coal block
Adani Enterprises has won a bid to develop a coal block in Orissa, the company said in a statement on Wednesday. The Chendipada coal block has an annual mining capacity of 40 million tonnes per annum and an estimated reserves of 1.6 billion tonnes.
Gujarat BSNL to set up 50 towers in Vadodara for Wi-Max service
Gujarat Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has initiated work to set up 50 towers to launch Wi-Max service in the city, General Manager of the company Ramakant Sharma said here today. He did not give any time-frame as to when the Wi-Max service would start but informed the company has started a survey to put up 50 towers. Talking to PTI after releasing Vadodara telecom directory with Indiacom Yellow Pages-2010 at a function, Sharma said that BSNL Vadodara has launched GSM based 3G services which has been highly popular. One more IT SEZ withdrawn from Gujarat Vadodara
Citing environmental hazards, Strength Real Estate Private Limited, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) floated by Mumbai-based K Raheja Corp, has withdrawn the formal approval granted for an IT/ITeS special economic zone (SEZ) at Vemali near Vadodara in Gujarat.
Spread across an area of 13.74 hectares, the IT SEZ was supposed to come up on the banks of the river Vishwamitri. However, environmental hazards prevented the SPV from moving further. “Any construction work on that site would have deteriorated the situation,” said a source close to the development. More »
GESIA set to expand operations in Gujarat
Having already attracted over 250 IT companies from Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, the Gujarat Electronics & Software Industries Association (GESIA) now intends to expand its operations in the state.

Commonwealth Express to showcase relevance of IT in Gandhinagar
The Commonwealth Express (CW Express), a special exhibition train designed to promote the mega event that will take place in Delhi, will be on the Gandhinagar railway station in Gujarat on September 14 and 15, 2010.
The train contains 14 coaches, of which six coaches are devoted to telling the success story of information technology (IT) in India. Five other coaches provide a curtain raiser for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. The contribution of Indian Railways to the sports and a list of railway sportspersons who have won Arjuna awards, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awards, Dronacharya award, Padmashree and Dhyanchand awards have been displayed in a separate coach in the train. Tata AutoComp Systems(TACO) to set up five factories at Sanand
Tata AutoComp Systems (TACO) is setting up five auto component manufacturing plants at Sanand in Gujarat at an investment of Rs 300 crore, a state industry department official said on Tuesday.
“TACO is investing around Rs 300 crore to open five plants at Sanand in Gujarat in current financial year. These five new factories are part of the vendor park coming up at the Tata Nano plant site,” the official said.
TACO is amongst the largest automotive components groups in India, having revenues in excess of Rs 3,500 crore.
Ahmedabad boy ranks third in country in CA final
Archit Shah is on cloud nine. He has secured third rank nationally in the final exams of Chartered Accountancy (CA). It was Archit’s die-hard attitude that earned him the top slot in the all-India exam conducted in May.
The pass percentage for CA final exams this time is an unusually low 3.45 per cent. In CA final (old course) exams conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), 628 students from the city had appeared in May. Of these, 42 students passed. In CA (final) for new course, 264 students appeared while only nine students cleared the exam.
