Private sector engineering major Larsen & Toubro has said that China is systematically killing Indian manufacturing sector and sought 25 per cent anti-dumping duty on Chinese goods. 

“China has a fixed currency. It is not a market economy like ours. China is systematically killing the Indian manufacturing sector,” L&T chief Naik, who was here for foundation stone laying ceremony of a forgings unit at Hazira told reporters here yesterday.

Japan delegation meets Modi, plans Rs 5000-crore eco-township in Dahej,Gujarat

A high-level delegation from Japan  called on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday and made a proposal to set up a Rs 5,000-crore eco-township at Dahej.

The nine-member delegation, led by Chairman of Japan Development Institute Dr Shoichi Kobayashi, has proposed to set up an eco township modeled on Kitakyushu township in Japan in Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) area here and another township GRMAZ at Dahej, said a government release. GU to introduce semester system in PG courses!

gujarat_univercity_logoGujarat University (GU) is mulling over introducing semester system in post-graduation courses from the next academic year. The university has called for a meeting of heads of all departments on Sunday.

A meeting of joint board of vice-chancellors and education department was held in Rajkot three months ago, in which UGC’s instruction to start semester system in colleges was discussed. It was decided that the semester system should be introduced in PG courses on a trial basis first. More »

853 students get employment at a Job fair organised by Gujarat Knowledge Society at LD Engineering College

Total of 853 students from different colleges and schools bagged employment opportunities at a job fair organised by Gujarat Knowledge Society at LD Engineering College on Saturday.

According to Gujarat Knowledge Society officials, the students with different educational back ground were provided with on-the-spot registration. “Total of 2700 students with qualification as diverse as post graduation, graduation and HSC had registered themselves. At the end of the fair, 853 students received the opportunities to work with 26 companies that had come for the fair.” said project manager Rosily Victor.

“The Gujarat Knowledge Society had earlier held job fair in Rajkot where 178 students had got employment. Our next fair is scheduled to be held in Vadodara and Surat.” she said, adding that the society had decided to organise job fair every three month.

Ahmedabad University collaborates with UK b-school

cambridge_universityThe recently-instituted Ahmedabad University has entered into collaboration with Judge Business School, Cambridge University (UK) to develop an in-house executive MBA program targeted at owner-managed industries.

Cambridge University is ranked the second-best university in the world. The programme, to be jointly designed by faculty of both universities, will also feature a short stint for students at Cambridge, with some faculty of the Ahmedabad University also slated to be trained there. The agreement will facilitate long-term access to course material and faculty training.

Apollo Tyres opens Rs 200 crore OTR facility in Limda Gujarat

apollo_tyreApollo Tyres Limited on Sunday launched their new production lines in passenger and truck-bus radial tyres and opened a manufacturing facility for extra-large off-the-road (OTR) tyres at its Limda plant here. Chief Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the works.

“Our investment at Limda plant, that was set up in 1991, has crossed Rs 2,000 crore investment with this new facility,” chairman of Apollo Tyres Limited Onkar S Kanwar told mediapersons. The Limda plant is Apollo’s flagship and largest unit, where the company recently enhanced its passenger radial production capacity from 90,000 tyres a month to 4.50 lakh tyres. More »

Modi invites Maruti to set up plant in Gujarat

maruti_suzuki_logoGujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday invited Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) to set up a car manufacturing facility in Gujarat. Modi, after inaugurating the AGIDTR set up by the state government and MSIL here, said he wanted to give a business advice to Maruti.

“Gujarat has General Motors and Nano, why not Maruti?” Modi said, pointing out that MSIL manufactures cars at Haryana which are then brought to Gujarat’s Mundra port for exports. “Would any Gujarati make such a mistake? They (cars) should be manufactured and exported from here.” More »

Petro university inks deal with US institute

A centre for excellence in energy will be set up by Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University(PDPU) in association with Georgia Institute of Technology (Gatech), Atlanta from the US.

On Saturday, PDPU, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) signed an MoU with Gatech for establishing the centre on the campus and carrying out faculty and student exchange programmes with the university.

TV channel and two online trading companies to recruit BA, BCom and BSc students of GU colleges

Around 450 BA, BCom and BSc students of Gujarat University colleges will be vying for 175 jobs that will be on offer from three companies: an online share trading firm, a television channel and an online equity trading company on Tuesday.

Angel Broking, TV9 and HDFC Securities will be offering placements to the final year students and graduates from among the three disciplines who have been shortlisted to appear for an exam and subsequent interview at B M Institute of Mental Health on Ashram Road.

The placements are part of the state government’s new project UDISHA, for Universal Development of Integrated Employability Skills Through Higher Education Agencies, whereby each college will set up an eight-member placement cell comprising principal, a lecturer and two students each from FY, SY and TY, which will interact with fellow students and list the observations.

At the end of the third year, each passout will be asked to indicate if he/she would like to continue with study, go in for self-employment or like help of the placement cell. Those opting for placement will be put through an aptitude test conducted by B M Institute, which will assess their skills, liking and potential to suggest disciplines in which they could try for jobs.

Placements for 20 students
Meanwhile, 20 BSc students of M G Science Institute were shortlisted by Azure, a business process outsourcing company, after their placement interviews on Saturday. Their packages range from Rs 8,000 for part-time and Rs 12,000 for full-time employees. Around 100 students had participated in the placement process. Dr Ayesha Rafique, placement officer at the institute, said, “We are trying to get more companies to come in for placements. This move will help fresh B Sc graduates to get jobs.”
