Infosys Founder Narayana Murthy graces first AU convocation

Addressing the students of Ahmedabad University (AU), chairman and chief mentor of Infosys N R Narayana Murthy said that the development in the country is disproportionate. Murthy urged the graduating students to shoulder the responsibility of bringing an inclusive and equitable change in the country.

Murthy was the chief guest at the first convocation of Ahmedabad University, which was held at its campus on Monday. The event conferred degrees to the university’s first batch of 110 MBA and 8 BBA students that graduated this year. More »

AMTS Bus Schedule & Station info on Google Map soon

Has the hassle of knowing the right bus number to your destination stopped you from boarding an AMTS bus? Well, now the information is just a mouse click away. AMTS route information, complete with bus numbers, will now be available on Google Maps.

Google India on Tuesday announced about inclusion of AMTS bus services and DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) to Google Transit. The company has already made available details of Mumbai, Bangalore and Pune bus services on Google Maps.

“A team of two officials from a private company had visited Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation some six months back. The officials said that they wanted information about the AMTS routes which they will then provide to Google,” said M S Patel, transport manager, AMC.

AMC had provided the company officials with complete route map and details about the AMTS fleet. However, the corporation has yet not received any intimation from Google about inclusion of AMTS routes on Google Maps. More »

Sardar Patel Statue of Unity to cost Rs 2,000 cr

It’s official. The proposed 182-metre high statue of Sardar Patel downstream of the Narmada dam will cost Rs 2,000 crore as against earlier estimates of Rs 1,000 crore.

The Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL) has invited expressions of interest from reputed consultants for the project. Already, state government officials are in talks with builders of Burj Khalifa – Samsung Construction & Technology (C&T) – to take up the project.

The state government proposes to rope in Gujarati diaspora, top business houses and general public to collect money for the project. More »

Having rolled out its prepaid CDMA mobile telephony services, MTS, in Gujarat, Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) is now eyeing to grab a market share of 30 per cent in the state. CAPEX plans – Siemens plans INR 1200 investment in Gujarat

Having inaugurated the second phase of its steam turbine and compressor manufacturing facility at Vadodara, Siemens Ltd has chalked out INR 1,200 crore CAPEX plan for the next two years in the state of Gujarat.

While the company has already invested INR 275 crore of the amount for the second phase of turbine and compressor plant, the company has also planned to expand the existing unit, apart from setting up transformers and wind turbine manufacturing units in the region. More »

Portal for e-governance services launched in Gujarat

Gujarat on Wednesday unveiled a single stop portal — www.portal.gujarat.gov.in — for all its e-governance services. State minister Jaynarayan Vyas said: “More than 50 G2C services will be made available to the people through this portal.” Government service applications like VAT, HMIS (hospital management) and e-dhara (revenue records) can be accessed through this portal.

In Karjan, students already work on Linux System

Gujarat government is gearing up to use Linux operating system in schools in the state, but a city-based foundation has been teaching use of this system to students in Karjan for the last one year now. Clinical research boom in Gujarat spikes demand for trained personnel

Banas Dairy to set up country’s second 100 MT skimmed milk powder plant

North Gujarat based Banaskantha District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Limited, popularly known as Banas Dairy, is all set to house a fully-automatic skimmed milk powder (SMP) manufacturing plant at Palanpur. The proposed plant for which the dairy will invest Rs 125 crore will be the second such milk powder plant in the country that will have daily capacity to manufacture 100 metric tonnes (MT) SMP. Tata Power plans India’s largest solar PV installation in gujarat

According to report published in Business Standard, India’s Tata Power has decided to set up 50 Mw solar photovoltaic power project at Mithapur in Gujarat where company already has its chemical plant. This will be the largest single solar photovoltaic installation in India according to company’s website.
