9 institutions apply for university status from Gujarat

AICTE raises merit criteria for engineering & pharmacy

The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) in its approval process handbook 2011-12 released online has said that minimum qualification for admission to engineering and pharmacy colleges will be 50 per cent marks.   • GCET-2011 will be held in June instead of February as announced earlier.
  • The institute heads were of the opinion that the GCET-2011 should be held in June as per the earlier schedule because the colleges had already fixed the schedules for other exams to be held in February

400 seats likely to increase in MEd colleges in Gujarat

Self-financed colleges hike fees for professional courses

The fee regularity committee has declared the fee hike in self-financed colleges in technical and medical and para-medical professional courses. The admissions begin on Tuesday. The fee at AMC Dental College has been hiked from Rs 2 lakh per annum to Rs 2.24 lakh. The figure for LG Medical College has been kept the same at 3.15 lakh.

Ahmedabad boy ranks third in country in CA final

Archit Shah is on cloud nine. He has secured third rank nationally in the final exams of Chartered Accountancy (CA). It was Archit’s die-hard attitude that earned him the top slot in the all-India exam conducted in May.

The pass percentage for CA final exams this time is an unusually low 3.45 per cent. In CA final (old course) exams conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), 628 students from the city had appeared in May. Of these, 42 students passed. In CA (final) for new course, 264 students appeared while only nine students cleared the exam.

The placement fair at Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information & Communication Technology (DA-IICT) in Gandhinagar began only 10 days ago, but students are already in a mood to celebrate.

The reason: 25 per cent of students of the batch that will graduate next year have secured jobs. Moreover, this year’s top offer is almost double than last year’s best. In 2009, Rs 7.5 lakh was the highest salary per year offered to students. This time, the figure stands at Rs 14 lakh.
