Question banks for students of Class XI (science) of all four subjects will be published by Gujarat State School Textbook Board by mid-September. Semester system has been introduced in the state in the academic year 2011- 2012. In the year after, the semester system will be carried forward.

New system: GU gives details of BSc exams

The Gujarat University (GU) has declared detailed information about BSc exams which will be conducted by the university following implementation of the Choice-Based Credit System(CBCS).

According to GU vice-chancellor Parimal Trivedi, as per the new examination system to be followed, the internal 30 marks which used to be calculated solely on the basis of the college exams has been divided into four parts. More »

MICA Go Common Admission Test (CAT) scores for admission

Mudra Institute of Communication Ahmedabad (MICA) will, once again, accept Common Admission Test (CAT) scores for admission to its flagship course this year. The institute had abandoned the CAT test from its admission process in 2010 and 2011 to use its own written test – ‘MICA test’ (MICAT).

No NEET in Gujarat this year

The state government on Wednesday declared it will not hold National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for medical colleges in state this year. The government spokesperson said that the union government law will not be implemented in Gujarat. NEET will now be held in 2012.

State Health minister Jaynarayan Vyas said, “The test will come into force from 2012. Students wishing to pursue in paramedical or dentistry in Gujarat, will have to appear for GujCET. If the NEET is introduced in the state, students will have to appear for a series of tests.”

If NEET is implemented here, it will allow class XII students to sit in a single entrance examination to get admission to almost all medical colleges in India.

GTU (Gujarat Technological University) degree to diploma forms released

As per the announcement made by the Gujarat Technical University (GTU) the Forms for diploma to degree courses are now available. The forms are to be accepted till July 7.

There are more than 8,999 seats in diploma to degree courses in Gujarat. From this year, the students of BSc in Maths are also now eligible to apply for degree engineering cources. While in last year there were 10% seats reserved for this, this year 20% seats are reserved which is double.

 

15-40% hike in fee for professional courses in Degree/Diploma/BE/B.Pharm/MCA/MBA

Dreaming of a career in engineering, MBA or MCA? Get ready to pay more. The fee regulatory committee for professional colleges on Tuesday declared the new fee structure for 429 professional colleges. The hike of fees is in range of 15-40%.

The committee has also declared the fee structure for the next three academic years. This will be applicable in self-financed colleges providing degree and diploma courses in engineering and pharmacy; master’s degrees in business administration, computer applications, engineering, pharmacy; and bachelor’s degrees in architecture and hotel and tourism management.  More »

GTU & Gujarat Goverment Portal site are down!

From today morning both websites GTU ( www.gtu.ac.in ) and Gujarat Goverment Portal (www.portal.gujarat.gov.in) are down due to some reason. GTU is leading technical university in Gujarat who handle all work of technication cources like MCA, MBA, BE/ Diploma.

Due to this all admission work has been suffered.  Not able to understand how can such important website can be down.

 

GTU sets up MBA skills council

Gujarat Technological University (GTU) held its first meeting of the MBA skill development councils at Shri Jairambhai Patel Institute of Business Management and Computer Applications at Gandhinagar on June 25.

In a new initiative, GTU has set up MBA skills councils in the areas of financial services, human resources and marketing management. The skill councils have been set up to improve the innovation and application of skills and knowledge of the management students. More »

AAU, IRMA join hands to create rural managers

Two premier educational institutions from India’s milk capital Anand — the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) and the Anand Agriculture University (AAU) — have joined hands to create a unique breed of rural managers.

They will soon launch a programme that will allow a BTech (dairy technology) student of AAU to directly get admission in IRMA’s post graduate programme in rural management (PRM). The student becomes eligible to take IRMA’s specially designed entrance test after clearing the first year of the BTech course. In five years, the students will pass out with two degrees — B Tech and PRM. Once AAU students complete the four-year programme, they will stay at IRMA for a year and complete the rest of syllabus. Now, even candidates seeking a teacher’s jobin class I to VII will have to clear the Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET). The state education department has made this test mandatory for those teaching in primary schools from June 2011.

The education department recently issued a circular stating that all candidates applying for jobs in primary schools to teach in class I-VIII will have to appear for the TET and score minimum 60% marks in the test.

Performance appraisal for college teachers

The recent, hefty pay hike for college teachers in the state has come with a price tag – accountability. The state has issued a government resolution to ensure that college teachers’ performances are appraised on an annual basis from now on.

The appraisal, said state education department sources, will be in keeping with certain academic performance indicators. The indicators, sources said, will gauge the teachers’ involvement throu-gh the number of research papers drawn up, books read for capacity building, work load, number of lectures taken, seminars conducted and co-curricular activities. Engg colleges may increase fee during mid-term

The fee charged by nearly 450 self-financed engineering, pharmacy, MBA and MCA colleges in the state is expected to increase by 30-50 per cent from the new academic session. But when exactly is the big question.

The HSC science results will be declared on May 12, while the first merit list for engineering and pharmacy courses will be put up on June 21.

However, the fee regulatory committee (FRC) has not yet begun checking the audit account reports of the colleges, required to decide on the fee hike. The delay in this process means the colleges will be able to revise their fee structure only after the admission procedure gets

Campus to career mela in Gujarat University

The first extensive recruitment exercise will be undertaken for the Gujarat University (GU) students on Sunday where students of arts, commerce and science will participate to get job. Some of the big names in the industry are expected to participate in the `Campus To Career’ mela to be held at the GU campus. Students will be offered pay packages ranging from Rs 8,000-30,000.

GU officials said that talks are also on with the industry representatives to give some relaxation to students who are selected for the jobs and yet want to pursue higher education along with earning their livelihood. “We intend to give jobs to at least 3,000 students”, GU officials said.

7,500 professors waiting for Dec salary payment

The state government, which has been bandying about large investment figures following the vibrant summit, is yet to pay salary for the month of December to teachers of 450 grant-in-aid colleges. The delay has put these teachers, 7,500 in all, in a real bind as many of them have loans to repay and insurance payments to make. Some are even struggling to manage household expenses.

Principals of these colleges, who are also waiting for their remuneration, claim this is the longest delay to date. They have urged the higher education department to resolve the issue at the earliest. “Usually, salaries are paid on fifth or sixth of every month. This time, however, it is taking longer,” a principal, who didn’t want to be named, said. More »
