B Com first merit list of Gujarat University cut-off up by 5 pc from last year’s

The second and the third merit lists will be announced on June 15 and June 18 respectively. With the first merit list of the BCom course out on Friday evening, the city commerce colleges witnessed huge rush of the students and their parents. As many as 65 commerce colleges in the state affiliated to Gujarat University have received 1,25,000 forms filled between June 5 and June 9 by the students.
The cut-off percentage of the first merit list of H L College of Commerce is 81. For S M Patel Institute of Commerce and G L S Institute of Commerce, the cut-off was 80 per cent. Few English medium colleges have declared two merit lists — one for Gujarati medium students wanting to switch over to English medium (lower level list) and another for English medium students (higher level list).

Students, whose names appear in the first merit list, can submit the fees till June 14, 2010. The second and the third merit lists will be announced on June 15 and June 18 respectively. Experts say, “Due to good results of class 12 this year, the cut off in the first merit list has gone up by 3 per cent to 5 per cent as compared to last year. There will be a reduction of 5-7 per cent from the first merit list cut-off in the second merit list and 3 per cent less in the third merit list.

Moreover, an increased trend of Gujarati medium students opting for English medium has been this year.” The first, second and third merit lists of candidates seeking admission under reservation quota will be declared on June 21, 24 and 26. If the quota seats remains vacant, they will be converted to open category seats

69.17 per cent clear third year Bcom
Gujarat University announced the results of TY Bcom on Friday. The pass percentage is 69.17. As many as 19, 740 students had appeared for the final year B Com exam. Of these, 2,179 got first class, 6,016 students got second class and 5,215 got pass class.

120 enroll for BCA course on day one
A total of 120 students got enrolled for the BCA course on the first  day of counselling at Gujarat University. The varsity had called 600 students, including physically challenged and Scheduled Tribes counselling on Friday. The counselling for BCA will continue until June 15 after which the process for admission to BBA will begin and continue until June 19.

The university has received 5184 applications for BCA and 5232 applications of BBA courses. The procedure for admissions to nine BBA colleges and 16 BCA colleges have been centralised this year after several instances of irregularities were reported, last year.

The minimum qualification for admission to BBA and BCA courses is 45 per cent marks in class XII for open category and 40 per cent for the reserved categories. University officials can be contacted for information on admissions under NRI quota. This year, the university has done away with management quota.
