2895 new diploma engg seats approved by AICTE in Gujarat

All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has approved 2895 more seats in diploma courses in engineering. Out of these, 2265 seats are in eight colleges set up recently. As many as 480 seats have been approved in two self-financed institutes (SFI) that run second shift. With this the intake capacity of 13 SFIs have been gone up to 1320.

Though the total number of seats has gone up, the council has scraped 1200 seats. As many as 450 seats have been hacked off six SFIs. Gujarat Technological University has scrapped 300 seats in a government polytechnic run under public-private partnership at Veraval. It has struck off all 30 seats in commercial art and 90 seats in three government colleges.

This year, a total of 92,337 candidates applied for admissions against 42,895 seats. Applicants can select their course and college beginning today (July 31) and August 5.
