GU to introduce semester system in PG courses!
Gujarat University (GU) is mulling over introducing semester system in post-graduation courses from the next academic year. The university has called for a meeting of heads of all departments on Sunday.
A meeting of joint board of vice-chancellors and education department was held in Rajkot three months ago, in which UGC’s instruction to start semester system in colleges was discussed. It was decided that the semester system should be introduced in PG courses on a trial basis first. More »
Like853 students get employment at a Job fair organised by Gujarat Knowledge Society at LD Engineering College
Total of 853 students from different colleges and schools bagged employment opportunities at a job fair organised by Gujarat Knowledge Society at LD Engineering College on Saturday.
According to Gujarat Knowledge Society officials, the students with different educational back ground were provided with on-the-spot registration. “Total of 2700 students with qualification as diverse as post graduation, graduation and HSC had registered themselves. At the end of the fair, 853 students received the opportunities to work with 26 companies that had come for the fair.” said project manager Rosily Victor.
“The Gujarat Knowledge Society had earlier held job fair in Rajkot where 178 students had got employment. Our next fair is scheduled to be held in Vadodara and Surat.” she said, adding that the society had decided to organise job fair every three month.
LikeDOCOMO launch delayed in Gujarat!
Tata Teleservices Ltd’s DOCOMO will take a little more time than scheduled for its launch in Gujarat.
“The spectrum allocated to us has not been released by government agencies. Hence, we are not able to launch the services in the state. We had earlier planned to launch DOCOMO by December 15,” said Naveen Bhasin, chief operating officer, COO of TTL Gujarat. “TTL has its share of spectrum, but it has to be cleared by local authorities too and such procedures take time,” Bhasin explained.
Asked about the next possible launch date, Bhasin said the company is now planning to do so by January end. TTL is very excited about Gujarat market and is hoping to get maximum incremental market share from here.

Finally its interview time. GPSC(Gujarat Public Service Commission) has taken exam in 2007 for Class-I and Class -II.
Interview will start for 1090 candidates from 18th January. interview process will be completed on 03 april 2010.

The panel sought to know from lecturers their education qualification, background etc. to verify these with the credentials furnished at the time of joining the job, and hence put these in the appraisal forms. College teacher’s need to fill appraisal form in Gujarat!
The Gujarat education department has initiated a move to appraise the performance of college lecturers with the aim of increasing quality of education and accountability among teachers. The department has sent out appraisal forms to all grant-in-aid colleges in the state and put it up on its website for lecturers to access, fill up and return to college principals. The measure was recommended by University Grants Commission long ago, but is being put into practice in Gujarat only now.

Self-finance institutes await Gujarat University nod for another fee hike
The fee hike issue taken up by self-financed institutes is yet to be resolved. Several self-financed institutes had asked the Gujarat University (GU) to permit them to increase the fee charged by them. But, the GU wanted these institutes to put forth reasons for hiking the fees. However, even after six months the institutes have failed to respond to queries put up by GU authorities.
These are self-financed institutes offering Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) and Bachelor of Commerce (Bcom) affiliated to GU.

Ahmedabad University collaborates with UK b-school
The recently-instituted Ahmedabad University has entered into collaboration with Judge Business School, Cambridge University (UK) to develop an in-house executive MBA program targeted at owner-managed industries.
Cambridge University is ranked the second-best university in the world. The programme, to be jointly designed by faculty of both universities, will also feature a short stint for students at Cambridge, with some faculty of the Ahmedabad University also slated to be trained there. The agreement will facilitate long-term access to course material and faculty training.
