MSU BCA students to celebrate the launch of Ubuntu & OpenSUSE

This is one fest in M S University (MSU) that will definitely be different from the usual students’ events. Install Fest – to be hosted by Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) students – will celebrate the launch of two operating systems by Linux Worldwide. Instead of the usual cultural and competitive events, visitors will be given demonstration of the systems and can even download it in laptops or CPUs as well as pen drives.

This event is on similar lines that happen in software hubs like Silicon Valley in USA on every weekend. The fest will begin with demonstration of the usage and features of the community driven operating systems – OpenSUSE and Ubuntu. BCA students will also orient people on different uses of Linux like coding, presentations, office, gaming, designing and other features in the Saturday event. More »

MSU social work faculty signs first int’l MoU

msulogoartgloworangeStudents from MS University’s social work faculty will now get a chance to explore global social practises, with the faculty joining hands with a university in United Kingdom. In its first international pact, the faculty will collaborate for an exchange programme with Huddersfield University (HU).

As per the memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed between MSU and HU on Wednesday, the collaboration will be for three years during which teachers and students from social work faculty will visit HU to learn practises in UK and vice versa. More »

Army recruitment rally in Gujarat from Jan 5 to 11

Indian-Army-FlagArmy Recruitment Office, Ahmedabad, will conduct a recruitment rally for candidates from north, central and south Gujarat and Union territories of Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The recruitment rally will be held at Police Headquarters Parade Ground, Mehsana, from January 5 to January 11, 2010. Recruitment in the categories of soldier general duty, soldier general duty (Scheduled Tribe), soldier non matric general duty and soldier tradesmen will be held at the ground 5am onwards covering the districts of Vadodara, Kheda, Anand, Bharuch, Narmada, UTs of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman on January 5, Banaskantha, Patan and Mehsana on January 6, Ahmedabad, Surat, Sabarkantha and Tapi on January 7, Gandhinagar, Dahod, Panchmahal, Valsad, the Dangs and Navsari on January 8. Sons of serving personnel, ex-servicemen, widows, war widows and NCC certificate holders and outstanding sportsmen will also be screened on January 8. Recruitment in the categories of soldier clerk/ storekeeper technical, soldier technical and soldier nursing assistant is scheduled on January 9.

AMA Seminar focuses on global trends in pharma

amaindia_logoThe Science and Technology Committee of the International Union of Architects (UIA) is in town for their annual working group meeting.

It conducted a day-long seminar at AMA (Ahmedabad Management Association) on Wednesday as part of their meeting. Several technical presentations were made by the committee members hailing from India, the US, Germany, Hungary and Israel.

The focus of the seminar was global trends in pharmaceutical, biotech and healthcare design, including sustainable design, alternative energies and other concepts that are changing the way these facilities are conceived, designed and operated. More »

British Council to organise UK education fair in Baroda

IBM to help create ‘Little Africa’ in Gujarat

ibm_logoIn a bid to provide employment to youth of the African-origin Sidi community settled in Saurashtra, Gujarat government has planned to
create a ‘Little Africa’ on the fringes of Gir forest by developing a theme-based resort.

The resort to be developed on 25 acres of land would be promoted by global giant IBM. The tribal development department of the state government has entered into a tie-up with IBM India for the project. More »
